Those that are of a uniform size, glossy, hard, large and of a thorny surface, are of the auspicious (s’ubha) type (worthy of acceptance). Those that are damaged, have cracks, are eaten by Insects and devoid of thorns deserve to be rejected. That rudraksha which has a hole bored through in its natural state is of d superior quality That which has a hole bored through is of lower quality.
