Cheti chand, the festival of the Sindhis is celebrated on the same day. This festival is to commemorate the birth of Water God (Varun Devta) popularly known as Jhulelal. In Sindh the beginning of New Year was considered as Cheti Chand. The powers of nature are worshipped during almost all the Indian festivals. On this auspicious day, people worship Water – the elixir of life.

Customs

On the full moon day, people go to a river or a lake and offer ‘Akho’ with a pinch of rice mixed with milk and flour. The business fraternity takes this as an opportunity to start new ventures. The festival starts with the worship of Jhulelal and culminates with the folk dance performances by the men of the Sindhi community.
